Top MBA entrance examinations you should attend

A Graduate once passed out may not know how to get into an MBA college, when he searches for institutions he gets an idea that every college has its own admission process. Apart from the seal on the graduation certificate, the institution needs to know the caliber of students like the skills, knowledge, ability, and personality.

In an MBA college, the common admission process is through conducting an entrance exam. The reason for conducting these entrance exams is to know the caliber of students in various areas like Numerical Reasoning, Verbal Reasoning, Diagrammatic Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Inductive Reasoning.

  • Numerical Reasoning

This type is to understand how well the candidate will effectively interpret graphs, data, statistics, or charts.

  • Verbal Reasoning

This is to identify whether the candidate understands written information and the passage of text.

  • Diagrammatic Reasoning

This is to evaluate the candidates’ ability to follow diagrams, synthesize data, identify patterns, and solve problems logically.

  • Logical Reasoning

This is to identify the ability of the candidates to make conclusions by following some information.

  • Inductive Reasoning

This type of test helps to measure the candidates’ potential to solve problems when unfamiliar information is asked.

As MBA colleges provide placements in various top corporates, they need candidates with high caliber, potential, skills, and knowledge. Especially IIMs, IITs, XLRI, SPJIMR, MDI, MIIM, etc. select students who have the highest in the entrance exams.

Coming to the important /top entrance exams one should attend to get into an MBA college are as follows

  1. CAT  – Common Admission Test
  2. CMAT  – Common Management Admission Test
  3. KMAT – Kerala Management Test
  4. MAT  – Management Aptitude Test

CAT 2021 – Common Admission Test

CAT - Top MBA entrance examinations you should attend

CAT is one of the common aptitude tests which is a national level test to be conducted online with a duration of 3 hours, but this year it is been reduced to 2 hours. CAT is commonly conducted by the top 20 IIMs on the basis of a rolling schedule. Every year each IIMs get a chance to conduct the exam. This year is to be conducted by IIM of Indore on November 29, 2000. The exam fee is Rs. 2000 for the general category and Rs. 1000 for reserved category. This is conducted only once a year for admission into IIMs, SPJIMR, MDI, FMS, IMT, MIIM, and over 1200 B Schools in India.

The Limit given for each section is 40 minutes (Total 120 minutes)

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning – 32

Quantitative Aptitude – 34

Total Questions available – 100

Total marks- 300

Language of question paper- English

Number of answer choices- Four

Marking Scheme

  • 3 marks for every correct response
  • Negative marking of 1/3 (-1) for every wrong MCQ response
  • No negative marking for wrong non-MCQ response

Eligibility

The minimum eligibility is graduation for a candidate. Further eligibilities are as follows:

  1. The candidate must possess a bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 50 percent aggregate or equivalent CGPA (45 percent aggregate for SC, ST, and PWD/DA category) from a recognized board or university.
  2. The candidate must have completed a professional degree (CA/ CS/ ICWA) with the required percentage.
  3. Candidates appearing for the final year of bachelor’s degree/equivalent qualification or awaiting result are also eligible to apply for CAT exam

CMAT 2021 – Common Management Admission Test

CMAT is a national level online exam for the admission of management courses mainly for MBA/PGDM conducted by National Testing Agency. NTA is a registered society under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 it is conducted in a single session for three hours is a computer-based exam for assessing the ability of the students in various areas like General Awareness, Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, Verbal Ability, etc. and is conducted once in every January. The exam fee for the exam is Rs 1,600 for the General category male and Rs 1,000 for General category female. CMAT 2021 registration process is likely to start soon.

There is no limit given for each section and the overall time limit is 2 hours.

Eligibility

  1. Candidates must be an Indian resident.
  2. Candidates must be holding a bachelor degree of minimum three-year duration or equivalent in any stream from AICTE approved institute/university to be eligible for CMAT 2021.
  3. Candidates in the final year of their Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to apply for CMAT 2021 provided their result will be declared before admission for the academic year 2021-2022 begins. They will be required to submit their mark sheet as proof of qualifying their final year examination during the time of admission.
  4. There is no upper age limit for applying and appearing in CMAT 2021.

KMAT 2021 – Kerala Management Aptitude Test

KMAT Kerala is a state-level exam conducted by the Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) and is held twice in a year. It is mainly for students who want to do their MBA in colleges of Kerala. It is an offline examination where the candidate will be allotted with a particular centre and the candidate has to go attend the examination. The online applications are invited from the candidates for admission to various Management Colleges of Kerala. Admission on the basis of KMAT Kerala is done twice a year for its sessions, i.e., once in Feb and the other in June. The exam fee is for General Rs.1000 and for SC/ST Rs.750.

The duration of the exam is 2hours and 30 minutes.

Quantitative Aptitude – 50

General Awareness & Contemporary Scenario -40

Total Questions available – 180

Total marks-720

Cut off – 108 for General and 54 for ST

Eligibility

  1. Candidates must have completed their graduation (three-years bachelor degree) from a recognized university
  2. Candidates belonging to the general category must have obtained 50% aggregate of all subjects in their final year qualifying degree exam
  3. Candidates belonging to reserved category must have obtained at least 40% aggregate of all subjects for the qualifying degree exam.
  4. Candidates who are in the final year of their graduation are also eligible to apply, however, they must provide their Graduation certificate at the time of admission as proof of qualification.
  5. There is no upper or lower age limit mentioned for appearing in KMAT Kerala

MAT-Management Aptitude Test

MAT is a national level exam that is conducted for admission in MBA/PGDM colleges and is conducted by AIMA (All India Management Association). It is been conducted 4 times in a year February, May, September, and December. The exam is conducted through both online and offline methods, that is, Paper-based Test (PBT), Computer Based Test (CBT), and Remote Proctored-Internet Based Test (IBT0. The examinations for each type will be conducted on different days. The fee for the exam is Rs 1,650. The registration for MAT 2021 will open soon.

There is no limit given for each section and the overall time limit is 2hours and 30 minutes.

Eligibility

  1. Candidates must have completed a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized Institute or University
  2. Candidates appearing in final year examination or awaiting result for Bachelor’s degree are also eligible to appear for MAT 2020
  3. Minimum Marks in Qualifying Exam
  4. Candidates need to have at least 50 percent aggregate or equivalent CGPA in bachelor’s degree
  5. Candidates belonging to reserved categories i.e. SC, ST, and PwD need to have a minimum of 45 percent aggregate or equivalent CGPA in bachelor’s degree final result.

As of now, these are the top four exams a candidate should acquire when he decides to get admission for MBA. CAT and CMAT are the stepping stones for entering into IITs, IIMs, and the top colleges, but don’t worry as there are other entrance exams where you can write MAT, KMAT, IIFT etc., whichever you apply for all these exams have almost same syllabus and patterns are almost same if you prepare best for one and you didn’t get you can try another one.
